Open Researcher & Contributor ID (ORCID)
What is ORCID?
It is an open, non-profit, community-driven initiative helping to create a world in which all who participate in research, scholarship, and innovation are uniquely identified and connected to their contributions and affiliations, across disciplines, borders, and time.
ORCID aims to solve the name ambiguity problem in research and scholarly communications by creating a central registry of unique identifiers for individual researchers and an open and transparent linking mechanism between ORCID and other current researcher ID schemes. These identifiers, and the relationships among them, can be linked to the researcher's output to enhance the scientific discovery process and to improve the efficiency of research funding and collaboration within the research community.
Why should I connect my ORCID ID to my SUNet ID?
- ORCID iDs are increasingly required by funders and publishers. Connecting your ORCID iD with your SUNet ID will allow you to enter data once (such as Stanford Profiles) and have it automatically flow to other places (like your ORCID record).
- Use the SUNet/ORCID connector to connect your ORCID ID to your SUNet ID. *Please note the checkbox for authorizing syncing with Stanford Profiles.
